ABOUT NITRO
Nitro is from our Transforms litter (Chess x Storm) and is a purpose bred lurcher for sports.
His Dad Storm is a well known in flyball and for many years was the fastest dog in Europe for many years with a PB of 3.33.
Nitro's mum is our very own pocket rocket 'Chess', with a PB of 3.70 as a 10" height dog.
When we considered another sports bred mix litter we had the experience of both Optic and Ultra and knew what we wanted to try to create. Ultra has incredible flat speed, some serious brains and just the right amount of crazy however she does lack a little in body length. Optic on the other hand has all the body length you can dream of, crazy power and the heart of a lion however he doesn't have quite the same acceleration as Ultra.
By using Chess as the Mum to this litter she gives us exceptional confirmation and in our opinion a pretty perfect build for a sports dog which includes a longer body and loin length. She also has a super brain, great work drive and super speedy feet/acceleration. Combining this with the size, power and outright speed of Storm we hoped to combine this with Chess to give us the best of both between Ultra and Optic.
So far Nitro is shaping to be everything we hoped for and more!
At 19 months old he is weighing in at 18.5kg and is around 57cm at the withers.
For a heavier set lurcher he has excellent acceleration but this boy is going to be one powerhouse of a dog when he is fully matured!
He has that longer body and loin length that we hoped for which gives him the ability to turn on a sixpence.
He has a beautifully balanced temperament showing all the drive you could want, he is confident but not over the top and has the natural sighthound off switch. He takes everything in his stride, new places, people, dogs, nothing fazes him and he has an excellent ability to adapt to any situation as required.
Nitro is excellent with dogs and people, he is incredibly friendly but doesn't need to say hello to everyone he sees. However the people he knows well, he loves!
At home he is a big cuddle monster and loves to snuggle with you on the sofa with a blanket, typical lurcher! He is also independent and quite happy to go and mooch around outside by himself (as long as it isn't raining) or play with his best friends Sizzle and Joker.
SPORTS
Flyball - Nitro is definitely a full height dog, only the second one we have ever had in the house!
Nitro has picked up all the games incredibly quickly and is already showing some serious drive, speed and power. He is progressing very well with his foundation training and put together his first full run at 12 months.
At 17 months old he has gained a PB of 3.38 making him the fastest dog in the house with more to come. On only his second competition he helped his team qualify for Crufts 2027 and on his third show helped his team to victory at the UKFL Championships!
We are very excited about his future in the sport!
Tricks - Like all our dogs Nitro is working though a foundation programme building up tricks and behaviours. He loves to work and please and as such has shown a natural ability for trick training. He has already gained his Novice through to Expert and we are now working on his Champion Title which will be our winter project.
Racing - Nitro has now had his first go at luring in a training setting and with no real surprise he took to it with ease. He is already showing some pretty impressive speed when racing against his older siblings of Optic & Ultra. Unmeasured at the moment but he is likely to measure in the under 23". We will be working on his muzzle training over winter ready to get him out on the track in 2027.
AT STUD
Nitro has the remainder of his health testing booked for October 2026 and subject to the results he maybe at stud in the future.
